Josh Groban you're a wonder, how bright you shine, a luminous candle in a luminous lifetime. Broadway and you go together like toast and jam. Everything here is wonderful and a joy to listen to. The ones with a lush sweep to them are the ones you do the best however. My all time favorite is "Anthem." It is a masterpiece; it just knocks me out with its intensity and passionate emotion. "What I did for Love' is very powerful and heartfelt and is my second favorite. Surprisingly something I never heard of is my third favorite. It is different. It is soft and poignant and can make me cry. It is called "Gold Can Turn to Sand." It is so beautiful. I like "Le Temps Des Cathedrales" because Josh sounds so wonderful although I don't know what he is saying. While he (Josh) sounds great singing, "Over the Rainbow," I don't believe that the song is ideally suited for him. I see it more for a female. Also while "All I Ask of You" is good also, it is a classical style which is quite a departure for Kelly Clarkson who sings country style. Oh Josh, you should have asked me instead. I can sing Classical. Even with a few little glitches, it is still stupendous, five stars and I highly recommend it. It is for everyone not just Josh Groban's fans. Buy it! You'll be glad you did.
Take the Challenge
I also have an EP out called "Hear Am I" by Melissa A. Romero While I'm just starting out and of course cannot compare to Groban, no one can, I do believe you will like it if you give it a chance. Just listen to the samples, perhaps buy one song, and leave a review. After you listen, just ask yourself have you ever heard a sweeter voice?

I must have been in a really bad mood when I wrote the negative review above.
Yesterday after reading a rave review from a man I respect I listened to STAGES (great title) again with an open mind. Even an old bird can sit on a new perch.
While I still think that on some occasions Josh lets the vibrato get out of control, the tracks on this album actually mostly avoid this annoying feature. The duet with Audra still sounds a bit like a couple of warbling birds (with great voices).
Besides that, I find these interpretations really pretty good, especially given that these songs have been recorded, for the most part, dozens if not scores of times. The standout for me is still OVER THE RAINBOW, but I also find BRING HIM HOME, the CHILDREN WILL LISTEN/NOT WHILE I'M AROUND medley, and ANTHEM very affecting. The voice is simply incredible on WHAT I DID FOR LOVE in spite of the fact that I despise the song itself (mostly because of it being a paean to narcissistic self-absorption rather than love between human beings and the fact that I despised the character that sang it in A CHORUS LINE). A vocalise, maybe? I also find the duet of ALL I ASK OF YOU rather poor--Josh's majestic baritenor completely outclasses Clarkson's rather ordinary pop voice, and she sounds like she's screaming on the "big note". The less familiar songs are OK but hearing them reminds me why they are not often recorded.
I still don't think this is the male version of Barbra's THE BROADWAY ALBUM and BACK TO BROADWAY, but it is close. GRAMMY clearly is not much interested in Josh, despite having great regard--as I do--for his contemporary Michael Buble', which is too bad. But he has a devoted following and has sold gazillions of albums on his own terms, resisting the temptation to do the same thing over and over. As for duets, his teamings with Barbra have been absolutely perfect, imho, and those he has recorded with Charlotte Church, Celine, and Sarah Brightman have also been pretty good. He overpowers most other female singers as he does Clarkson (including Idina Menzel). Male duets? Cannot think who would dare, except maybe Bocelli.
So, mea culpa. Enjoy.
